Very interesting, the assertion that the gangs were formed by competing political parties seems to suggest that Democracy is not a peace-making mode of governance (as developments in Iraq are also showing) It's funny that this host of this program does not delve into the psychological underpinnings of the gang conflict, though it seems to be very similar to gang mentality here in the states. I believe that violence is a direct result of poverty (I don't know where the poverty stems from, though I would assume that destructive state policies and intervention by foreign states and state protected businesses (corporations) play a role. Poverty, that is to say lack of access to resources, tends to cause emotional instability which is then projected onto others in order to protect ones internal emotional well being. Jamaica seems like a good candidate for transition to full Anarchy as it's state system is clearly completely ineffectual anyway. Get them kids some Bakunin!

People are just being silly over watching this program. jamaica is a lovely place and would rather live there than the cold horrible england. why people acting like no where else in the world has crime.Everywhere in the world has crime. Why would so many people love jamaica if its soo bad in some peoples eyes. yes some parts in jamaica have alot of crime. alot of area's in england and america etc have crime. Jamaica isnt a bad place. Its a wonderful place. ! Because some program shows crime in the contry doesnt mean that jamaica is a totally a bad place. i lvoe jamaica its beautiful and has good weather. Im proud to be jamaican. the sun sun shines everyday :).

Jamaica is a God dam hell whole place. I mean if you walk down the street and bump in to someone you have to beg them not to kill you. Them will hide in tree and jump down to rob you and the police them killers. One day robber man try to cash a check that him steal from I man and me closed the account after the robbery that me report. Then the man try cash check and the bank bring the police to my house say that I try rob them bank because me no have money in the account to give robber to cash, so me a try rob them bank....not the robber with my check. Them let him go as poor thing with bad man check. Me hear him just walk out the bank. Don't let anyone tell you about good Jamaican because them is backwards man.

Times have changed GunnerGraham...those niggers are your doctors, teachers, professors, policemen, layers, judges, pastors. We're winning nobel prizes and making huge contributions to society just like any other rac...etc...Silly...when you look out back in the field on your farm. We're not out there any more sunny boy...so watch yourself master...lol. *smile.

GunnerGraham, it's sad that people like you still exist. When I say that I don't mean racist. Because everyone is entitled to their own thoughts. What I mean is that there still exists a small group of ignorant, uneducated hill billies out there that probably blame every other race out there for their failures, short comings and misfortunes. That's so sad. "Their takin' our jobs" "Their takin' our women" "affirmative action" bla bla bla, all while you're sittin' at home with your 1st cousin Joeleen who's pregnant for you, your six kids runnin' around like wild animals ...you on the porch with your hat, rifle, your dog and all while chewin on a straw...lol...lol...lol..

PART II Jamaica still remains one of the top Caribbean tourist destinations in the world with no violence related tourist fatalities. The Jamaicans living abroad need not to be ashamed of where we are from or point the finger at the U.S.A. We need to look back to Jamaica and see if there are ways we can assist with "OUR PROBLEM". I love Jamaica but we have a serious problem.

I am a black Jamaican living in Canada. I am a professor at the University of Toronto. I found that Ross Kemp did a very good job at depicting the type of violence that people of the garrisons have to face every day in Jamaica. I was born and raised in Tivoli Gardens. There were good and bad times. I'm glad that I was able to elevate myself out of that situation but I dare not forget what the reality still is. I have been to all the continents on this planet and have seen many beautiful places but there are parts of Jamaica that remain among some of the most beautiful and peaceful places that I have seen. Yes, let's be real. Jamaica ....."Kingston" has a murder problem and we need help addressing it. Do keep in mind that I have cousins that live in Beverly Hills (Jamaica), Stoney Hill & other places that have never even heard gunfire.

gunnergraham, why don't you tell them that to their face? I'm sure you're brave enough and not just some cowardly little prick on the internet.

There's nothing more satisfying to the soul, than seeing niggers killing each other.

Bronzey, while I dont totally agree with Toid01 jamaica is a beautiful place and you need not diss my country. I am Jamaican, I was born here, I grew up here and I live here. Infact, I live in Kingston. The documentary sumes up the gang violence in some garisons. However, thats just a small part of the country. There is so much more to jamaica than violence and crime and I think thats what toid01 is trying to say. I will be the first to admit we have a serious problem with these youths killing off each other, but I don't think that is unique to Jamaica. It is all over the world. Nayabeigee, Your welcome to come to Jamaica. So many tourist come yearly, you dont hear them being harmed. As was depicted in the documentary, these acts arecentred in small pocketsof the island and you wouldn't be going to any of these areas. So dont be afraid, We arevery warm people. But dont take my word for it, come and see for yourself.

Toid01, you're an idiot if you think this is some ploy by the 'FIRST WORLD COUNTRIES' to belittle Jamaica. Stop being Naiive. 250 people in less than two months is more people than the amount of people that die in Bahgdad, Iraq in a quarter, please check the numbers. Im Jamaican, I was born there but I currently live in NYC, have for a good part of my young life, and I couldnt be more happy that I no longer have to live in such a backwards place. My grandmother lives there still and I hear it from her and from the rest of my family & friends that are stuck there. So this isnt a 'first world country' perpetuating a negative stereotype of Jamaica.Im Jamaican, but Im not going to sit up here and act like this is just selective editing, yellow journalism and photoshop, this is real shit. People like you are the problem, which is why Jamaica will never be more than it is now. People like you see this and wave it off like its just unique episodes of random acts of violence.
Comment from toid01, Feb 21, 2008 (#10057)
ALL THAT CRAP IS WHAT FIRST WORLD COUNTRIES USE TO BELITTLE OUR COUNTRY AND STOP THE LITTLE PROGRESS WE CAN MAKE. THINGS LIKE THIS HAPPENS EVERYWHERE, WHY DON'T THEY TAKE TIME TO CLEAN UP THEIR OWN BACKYARD, AS FAR AS I CAN SEE THERE IS NOWHERE IN THE WORLD WHERE I HAVE BEEN SO FAR AS CORRUPTED AND NASTY AS THE U.S.A. BUT AS ALWAYS THEY TRY TO COVER UP THEIR OWN SHIT TO EXPOSE OTHERS, AND WHAT IS SO SHITTY ABOUT IT IS THE FACT THAT WE (PRIVILEGED) ONES ABLE TO MIGRATE SEEM TO BE SO ADAMANT IN JOINING THEM, WE CANNOT SEE THE DAMAGE THEY ARE CREATING. TELL THEM TO GO "CHUCK OFF AND DROWN"

I'm from Europe and I didn't suspect that on Jamaica is such a violance. I thought that it is very peaceful island... I won't go there now, I wanted, but after watching this film I'm a bit afraid.
